aaaand the results are in, obama wins, woo-hoo....?
i'm glad that i got to experience this election from the vantage point i have had. not only was my main information source the western australian, my new favorite magazine, but i'm surrounded by people all from very different backgrounds. australian news has quite a different way of looking at the election than does american news. i feel as though i've gained a new view on our government and media. who wins really isn't that important. nothing will change too much. yes, obama does have some good ideas (especially his stand on healthcare), but if they're radical to the nation (such as his ideas to improve healthcare), then nothing will change (interesting how it works that his good ideas are the ones that are a bit radical). our country has been operating based on private healthcare for how long? and almost every other country has a much better system in place, and has had this for decades. why would we change now? we're americans; we fear change; if it's not broken to the point of shambles, why fix it? and keep in mind, obama is just as crazy as every other politician. he says ridiculous things, has absurd ideas, and speaks just to make his listeners happy and gain votes. but who can blame him? it's his job, he has to do this, and if he doesn't, some other asshole will. i do think it's a good thing that he won, only for the fact that the executive branch switches from republican to democrat. the country does need change. this won't bring about much, given the limited power of the position, but it will hopefully be enough. the lesser of two evils won in politics for a change, about time.
and it's a good thing that the democratic rule extends to the house and senate. if change is going to happen, we need a bunch of dems in control. given that these two branches get a lot of the work done, this should be a good thing. however, it's a shame that we don't have any senators from the all-day breakfast party. that's one party i'd really be able to rally behind. all in all, i'm glad with the way the election appears to have turned out, and even more excited that it's over. maybe i'll be able to read u.s. news in the paper this week about something else! haha, who am i kidding, it'll be this for at least a month more.
oh, and i'm proud of my state. while the votes have not been fully counted yet, it appears we will have supplied mccain with 11 electoral votes. woo-hoo missouri! i was hoping we'd have been able to prove matty wrong, so he could stop calling me a hick and from the deep south. while we're obviously not in the deep south, maybe we are a bunch of hicks in this state. i do hail from a place boone county for a couple of generations, how much more hick-ish can you get?
as an aside, seeing as the asians are still being loud outside my door and preventing my sleep, i'm gonna be so sad to leave here in 26 days. i am in fact ready to be home, but it's going to be so much harder to leave here than it was to come here. at least with home, i know that it will be there for me whenever i choose to return. but here, these people i've met and come to love will be a lot harder to keep in touch with. i now have friends not only from australia, but from south africa, india, pakistan, england, ireland, zimbabwe, and all across the states (california, colorado, pennsylvania, indiana, and new jersey/vermont). even the americans will be challenging to see in the near future. adrienne is the only easy one to see, and she's only 4 hours away from stl. erica, in pennsylvania, is 11 hours. matty and nick are even further. it's going to be a shock to go from being able to walk to any of these people within 2 minutes, to having to get onto a plane if i ever want to see them again. the only plus side is that it gives me an excuse to travel more, which is my goal. adrienne has gained a sense of pride in her country since being here, i've gained the opposite, the desire to go other places (this is probably from my excess exposure to matty though).
i feel as though i've changed a lot here, yet remained the same (my feelings often contradictory these days). i've been able to gain perspective on the world as well as myself. and just as i understand what it is that i really want right now, it's too late to grab it. usually, i'd sulk at this realization. but now, i'm just glad that i had the opportunity to have it and have gained the knowledge that it is in fact out there. maybe one day i'll be in a position to have the chance to grab it, or something similar to it, but for now i'm not ready. i feel as though i've found an inner calm; the ability to accept things as they are and instead of wishing to change things now, hope for better in the future. no, hope is the wrong word. STRIVE for better in the future. (in case anyone was wondering, seeing as this is very vague, this paragraph has been about a boy, experiences, classes, grades and more; i've been vague for a reason). i'm hoping that my brain has finally turned on. i don't feel like i've ever thought as much about real things as i do here.
continuing on, as the ruckus continues on and i still cannot sleep (it's fucking 24hour quiet time for finals, where is my ra when i need him?), i'm really glad i've decided to switch to bio instead of physics. i've always loved physics, but something always felt off. it just didn't feel like i was making the right choice. now i feel content with my choice, it fits me, and it makes me feel as though i can do something with real meaning. i can make a difference where i want to make a difference. i may get made fun of for it a lot, but i truly love animals. nothing else can replace them in my heart, it's a different type of love than i've ever experienced. seeing them happy makes me happier than i could ever imagine anything else doing. and they're my passion. learning about them and their ecosystems is truly fascinating. i feel like this is where i belong, and i'm glad i've realized it before it's too late.
also, biology will hopefully allow me to travel. i have a list of places i want to hit up now: vermont, cali, ireland, scotland, england, northern and southern africa, italy, new zealand, and i'll probably find many more through my future travels.

i effing love it down under. i may never leave. the people are awesome, i've been hanging out with rutu, nat, dale, james, zara, adrien, reedy and a whole bunch of others, plus erica and matt that i met through butler. i've been here not even a week, and it feels like i've known these people for a long time. i miss seeing the other half of the butler 8 in WA, but i'll make it. went to see batman yesterday - FUCKING AMAZING. tonight is adrien's birthday, her 21st, so we're hitting up some american style bars tonight after pre-gaming in house. sooo excited to go hang out with dale some more. plus tomorrow is caversham wildlife park, which erica, matt, adrien and i get to go to hungover, YESSSS. but i'm sure petting koalas is a good hangover cure.
i have yet to actually miss the u.s., although i do miss the people there. it's weird to be living so far away from home, yet not feel like it. the people here have been so welcoming this is already feeling like a second (or probably third) home. i just wish i had more time to keep in touch with everyone in the states and see how things are going. hopefully once sem starts i'll have more time to write emails/fbook messages....

somehow, i'm unable to sleep. i spent my entire day feeling like shit, about ready to pass out at any instant due to a massive headache; i didn't even go to work. now that it's 1:30 in the morning, sleep finaly eludes me. maybe i would have gotten enough rest through doing close to nothing all day today. hopefully.
part of my issue, i think, is that i was plagued not only with the aforementioned headache last night whilst trying to sleep, but also crazy ass dreams that come from god only knows where (or who/what ever creates dreams knows where). the only dream i can really recollect was one involving dragons, griffins, very large dogs, dustin hoffman and a very playful labrador retriever. and the only meaning i can derive from it is that i have an innate desire to help animals and come to their service, saving them from the mean old dustin hoffman's of the world turning every animal blue (did i mention these dreams were borderline psychotic?). this crazy weird dream thing has been an issue of mine for a while, since just about a month before i started seeing mike. maybe there's lsd in the tap water, i dunno, but i gotta blame it on something.
the only things of note i did today were complete my four year plan (and i'm seriously thinking i can keep it down to four years now, dual major and everything, maybe even a minor is possible), go pick up my australian currency at the bank, pick up a book about australian travel at the library and begin reading it. while i adore the currency, it is so colorful that i won't want to spend it (which is a good thing), the book is giving me even more things to worry about on my travels. while my previous worries are slowly fading (getting into classes that i can actually complete the work expected of me, making friends and finding my way around a new city) new ones are replacing them more quickly than they can fade thanks to good ole bill bryson. in case you didn't know, australia is home to the most venomous everything. even the seashells in some parts of the country can kill you. hell, they'll seek you out for attack in some places. while the people are said to be the most friendly and the culture the safest, you have everything to worry about from tiny spiders and 8 inch long snakes that hide in the sand for unsuspecting victims to sit next to to crocodiles and dingos. hell, i'll probably get attacked by a cute and cuddly koala bear. everything in australia is tough and more willing to take you out than give you the time to do so to them. not that i would, but none of these animals knows i'm a vegetarian.
now, if i ever get to sleep tonight, i'm gonna have nightmares involving crazed sea shells with koalas living inside them coming after me.
screw that, that's even too sane for me to dream of. i think i need medication.

i wish i could forever live in the glory days of ignorance and naivete....
i wish my aunts and uncles would stop getting plastered at family get-togethers. they say dumb things and shouldn't say them. and this is in front of my little cousins. it doesn't seem right. they are alcoholics and it makes me not want to drink period. it's sick to be that age and getting wasted every night. and then driving home. just sick.
i wish people could understand that just because i don't gush about my boyfriend does't mean things aren't good. i've felt many a time that it isn't appreciated when i do so, so i don't. i'm happy with being happy quietly. and if i hear one more negative thing about him from a friend i will scream. i'm sick of that too. obviously i see something in him, otherwise i'd break up with him, and i wish that could be respected.
one of my new year's resolutions is going to be to truly try to do what's "right" all the time. and this is going to be my definition of right, since it's all i can work off of. to make it simpler, being kind, supportive, open and caring to those around me; honestly always trying to do unto others as i would have them do unto me; follow karma. i'm kind of pulling from some buddhist ideals in what i want to accomplish, and it's difficult to explain, but it's a feeling in me that i feel is right.
now that i sound like a complete idiot,

feeling very unimportant to quite a few people, wishing i wasn't such a pushover...

it depends on who it is, those i'm close to i have no problem with meeting their eye path, however people i don't know too well i don't wanna look them in the eye at all really

it's really hard to live with people who don't live the same way you do... that doesn't make sense unless you've experienced it
